BFT welding and fabrication repair in Fort Lauderdale typically runs $280 to $640 installed, and we stock the common weld-in hinge plates, gate frame reinforcements, and motor mounting brackets on the truck so most jobs are done same day. The problem usually announces itself the same way: the gate sags an inch, then two, then it starts scraping the driveway on every swing. In a coastal city like Fort Lauderdale, where salt air eats through a raw steel weld in a couple of seasons, what starts as a hairline crack at a hinge point becomes a dropped gate before most homeowners even notice the rust line.

We’re Warden Gate Repair Fort Lauderdale, and we fabricate and weld BFT-specific parts daily. We’re an independent service provider, not a BFT corporate shop, which means we can make the call between welding a cracked bracket back to full strength and replacing it with OEM or a better-spec’d aftermarket piece without a dealer markup driving the decision.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
Most of the welding and fabrication calls we take in Fort Lauderdale involve the workhorse BFT swing operators: the Deimos BT A 400 and A 600, the Argo series, and the older Phobos swing and sliding gate motors. The weld points on these systems follow a predictable pattern. The hinge post plates that hold the gate leaf to the wall or column carry hundreds of pounds, and in a city where the gate might open twenty times a day for fifteen years, the welds at those plate edges fatigue before the gate itself ever thinks about failing.
Identifying the right part before we strike an arc comes down to one gotcha we check every time: BFT changed the mounting bolt pattern between the older Phobos and the newer Deimos series, and the two are not interchangeable. A bracket that looks close at a glance will sit a quarter-inch off, which means the operator shaft runs at an angle and the welds we just laid down start working against themselves. We measure the bolt centers before any work starts, not after the customer has already spent money on a part that doesn’t fit.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question specifically for BFT: the original hinge and reinforcement plates are fine, but they’re not magic. A quality aftermarket steel bracket, properly gusseted and welded, will often outlast the OEM piece in a salt environment because we spec a heavier gauge and then coat it ourselves after the weld. What we won’t do is weld a cracked bracket back together when the metal around the weld is thinned from corrosion. That’s a re-break waiting for a windy afternoon.

Signs Your BFT Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
Here’s what we actually see on job sites across Fort Lauderdale, from Victoria Park to the neighborhoods along Las Olas:
- The gate sags toward the latch side. This is the classic hinge weld fatigue failure. The top hinge plate has torn away from the post by a few millimeters, which translates to a visible drop at the far end of the gate. The operator is still working, but it’s pushing against an increasing angle, which burns the motor out faster.
- A rusty crack line runs through the bracket or plate. Salt air in Fort Lauderdale gets into the weld bead, not the steel beside it. What looks like surface rust along a weld line is often a crack that’s opened up to let moisture in. Tap it with a wrench and it sounds dull, not clean.
- The gate moves in a slight twist when it opens or closes. That twist means one of the two load-bearing welds has already failed and the remaining weld is now carrying the full force alone. The gate still tracks straight until it doesn’t, and when it doesn’t, it usually takes the operator’s piston with it.
- You hear grinding at the hinge point, not the motor. Motors get blamed for a lot of noises they don’t make. If the grind is at the post, not at the operator box, the weld has broken loose and the metal plates are rubbing against each other under load.
- The same bracket was welded once before and the crack is back. A previous weld that fails usually means the bracket wasn’t gusseted the first time, the weld didn’t penetrate the base metal, or nobody addressed the underlying cause like a misaligned post. Welding over an old failed weld without fixing the reason it failed is how you pay for the job twice.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For BFT welding and fabrication in Fort Lauderdale, here’s the honest range:

- Hinge plate re-weld or reinforcement: $280 to $420 installed, including grinding back to clean metal, the new weld, and a corrosion coat.
- New fabricated hinge plate or motor bracket: $390 to $640 installed, including cutting the old piece out, fabricating the replacement, welding it in, and coating it against the salt air.
- Gate frame crack repair with gusset plate: $250 to $480 depending on how far the crack has run and whether we need to brace the gate before welding.
Every one of those numbers is quoted and agreed to in writing before any work starts. You’ll know the line-item breakdown: parts, welding time, and any grinding or re-coating. If the weld fails within a year, the 365-Day Done Right Promise means we’re back out to fix it at no charge. That promise is printed on the estimate, not whispered over the phone.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely tighten the hinge bolts on your BFT gate yourself. That’s a half-inch wrench and five minutes, and sometimes the “weld failure” is actually just a bolt that worked loose over a few thousand cycles. You can also safely clean the area around the hinge with a wire brush to see whether you’re looking at surface rust or an actual crack line. That’s useful information for us either way.
Here’s where DIY goes wrong, and I want to be straight about it: welding on a gate that’s already sagging means you’re working under load. If you weld a hinge plate while the gate is still hanging, the weld goes in stressed and it fails fast. The gate has to be supported or removed, the post has to be checked for true, and the whole assembly has to be squared before the first arc goes down. And if this is a spring-loaded or counterweighted gate, the stored force in that spring is enough to break a hand or worse if it lets go while the weld is being ground back. This is one of those jobs where a clean weld on a properly prepped surface is the difference between a gate that lasts ten years and one that drops again in ten months.

FAQs
A properly done weld on a BFT hinge plate or bracket in Fort Lauderdale should last 10 to 15 years, but only if the weld was coated against salt air and the gate wasn’t welding while under load. Uncoated welds in this climate can start showing crack lines in three years, sometimes two if the gate faces the ocean side. The weld itself should never be the failure point; the coating is what buys you the years here.
Yes, if the crack hasn’t spread into the surrounding metal and the bracket isn’t thinned from corrosion, we can grind it back, re-weld, and add a gusset for strength. If the metal around the crack is pitted or thinned, replacement makes more sense. We’ll tell you which one you’re looking at before any work starts.
Most hinge plate re-welds and bracket replacements are done in two to four hours on site, including grinding, welding, and coating. Larger fabrication jobs, like a full gate frame crack repair with a custom gusset, can run a full day. You’ll have a time estimate along with the price before we start.
We carry the common hinge plates, gusset stock, and motor brackets used on the Deimos and Argo BFT series, plus the steel plate we need to fabricate odd-sized replacements on the spot. We also stock parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems. If your BFT model needs a piece we don’t have loaded, we’ll have the exact spec ordered and on the schedule fast, with the price locked before any work begins.
