BFT hinge and roller replacement in Fort Lauderdale typically runs $220 to $480 installed, depending on whether you have a single swing leaf or a double-leaf gate and which hinge style your BFT operator drives. We stock BFT-compatible hinge kits and rollers on the truck, so most replacements happen the same day we arrive. The way owners discover this failure is almost always the same: the gate starts dragging on the close cycle, then the BFT operator trips its obstruction sensor and reverses, leaving the gate sitting half-open at night.

What’s actually happening is the hinge pins or rollers have worn past their tolerance. The gate leaf drops a fraction of an inch, catches on the driveway or the guide track, and the operator’s anti-crush protection kicks in. It looks like a motor failure. It isn’t. It’s metal-on-metal wear that’s been building for years, accelerated by Fort Lauderdale’s salt air and daily rain cycles.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
This applies to nearly every BFT swing gate system installed in South Florida over the past 15 years. The hinge and roller assembly isn’t model-specific the way a control board is. It’s leaf-specific by weight and width. We regularly replace hinges and rollers on BFT Deimos, Phobos, and Argo actuator setups, and on BFT sliding gate operators where the roller truck carries the gate leaf.
The identification gotcha to know: BFT doesn’t stamp a visible part number on most hinge assemblies. What matters is the post-to-leaf offset, the hinge pin diameter (typically 12mm to 20mm on BFT residential gates), and the leaf weight. Measure the pin, measure the offset, and match the metal thickness. OEM BFT hinge kits are available for most current production, but for gates installed before 2012, a quality aftermarket hinge with a sealed bearing often outlasts the original. We’ll tell you which is the right call before quoting.
We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with BFT. What that means for you: we stock compatible hinges, rollers, and BFT operator parts, and we service BFT alongside LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, Ghost Controls, FAAC, Viking, Linear, DoorKing, and Elite. The benefit to you is one tech who knows the whole gate, not just one brand’s catalog.

Signs Your BFT Hinge & Roller Replacement Is Failing
- The gate drags or scrapes near the latch post. This means the hinge pins have worn oval-shaped holes in the hinge body, dropping the leaf just enough to catch the strike plate or ground. It will get worse, not better.
- The BFT operator reverses mid-cycle. The operator senses the extra resistance from the dragging leaf and reads it as an obstruction. Before replacing the operator, we check the hinges first.
- Visible rust weeping from the hinge pin area. Fort Lauderdale’s humidity and salt air attack unsealed hinge pins fast. Once the pin rusts, it grinds the surrounding metal every time the gate moves.
- The gate leaf wobbles when you push on it by hand. That wobble is play in the hinge or roller bearing. Play turns into drag turns into operator fault codes.
- Squealing or grinding on the open and close cycle. Rollers with failed bearings sound exactly like that. On sliding gates, it means the roller truck bearing is gone and the gate is riding on flat spots.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a single swing leaf, plan on $220 to $340 including the hinge kit, install labor, and adjustment of the BFT operator limits after we finish. Double-leaf gates run $380 to $480 because both hinge sets get replaced at once to keep the leaves level. Sliding gate roller truck replacement lands in the $280 to $420 range depending on gate weight and roller count.
Every quote is written and given to you before any work starts. No surprise line items at the end. You’ll see the part cost, labor, and the adjustment work as separate lines. We don’t install a hinge without setting the leaf height and re-teaching the BFT travel limits afterward, because a new hinge that throws off the operator’s close force is half a repair.
The installed price includes our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the hinge or roller fails within a year, the return visit is free. Written on your estimate, honored without argument.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check the hinge play yourself: put the gate in manual mode, push the leaf side to side and up and down, and watch for movement at the pin. If you see steel dust or rust streaks under the hinge, you’ve found the problem. What you shouldn’t do is unbolt a hinge from a gate leaf under load. A full-size BFT swing leaf can weigh 400 to 600 pounds, and it will fold on you the second the hinge clears the post. That’s a crush injury waiting to happen, and it happens faster than you’d expect.
If the gate is dragging, call (754) 354-9065 and tell us what you’re seeing. We’ll give you a straight answer on the phone about whether it’s a hinge call or something else, and a written price before the tech sets foot on your driveway. A locked gate only protects you if it actually locks.
FAQs
In Fort Lauderdale’s coastal air, unsealed hinge pins and roller bearings typically last 5 to 8 years before measurable wear sets in. Rollers on sliding gates exposed to canal-front humidity often go sooner. Sealed-bearing replacements routinely outlast the originals.
Rarely. Once the pin hole is worn oval or the pin is scored from rust, welding or shimming buys a few months at best. Replacement is the honest fix, and it’s usually cheaper than a repair attempt plus the follow-up replacement when it fails. Call (754) 354-9065 for a straight read on yours.
Most single-leaf hinge replacements happen in 90 minutes to two hours including travel-limit adjustment. A double-leaf or sliding roller truck replacement may take up to three hours. We quote that time on your estimate before we start.
Yes. We carry common BFT-compatible hinge sizes, roller trucks, and hardware on the truck, and our supplier network in Broward County gets non-stock items same day in most cases. Cole Rafferty, our owner, has built the truck loadout around what Fort Lauderdale gates actually break, not what a catalog says to carry.
