Ghost Controls welding and fabrication work in Fort Lauderdale typically runs $180 to $420 installed, depending on whether we’re repairing a cracked gate bracket, rebuilding a hinge mount, or fabricating a custom post adapter. Most jobs are completed same-day because we keep raw steel stock, a portable welder, and Ghost Controls mounting templates on every truck. You’ll usually discover the problem the hard way: the gate starts dragging, the opener strains audibly, or the whole assembly shifts off to one side after a weld lets go.

In Fort Lauderdale, salt air works on welds the same way it works on everything else metal: slowly, then all at once. A gate that’s been swinging fine since 2019 suddenly has a three-inch sag, and the Ghost Controls arm is fighting a geometry problem instead of moving the gate. That’s the moment owners call us, usually after propping the gate open with a cinder block for a week.
Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To
We fabricate and weld for the full Ghost Controls lineup: the AXDP, AXXP, and TSS1 series openers, plus the heavy-post retrofit setups common in Fort Lauderdale’s older neighborhoods like Victoria Park and Coral Ridge. The welding work usually isn’t on the opener itself. It’s on the steel the opener mounts to: the gate frame, post brackets, hinge tabs, or the receiver plate that carries the Ghost Controls arm.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most owners don’t know: Ghost Controls arms use a clevis-pin mounting pattern that’s narrower than LiftMaster or Mighty Mule hardware. If a previous handyman welded a universal bracket on there, the pin holes are usually drilled too wide, and the arm develops lateral slop within a year. We see it constantly in Fort Lauderdale. We re-drill to Ghost Controls spec or fabricate a fresh plate with the correct 5/8-inch pin spacing, depending on the arm model.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: for the welding and bracket work itself, there’s no Ghost Controls-branded fabricated steel worth waiting for. The opener company makes motors and arms, not custom gate brackets. What matters is using the right gauge steel (we use 11-gauge minimum for post plates, 1/4-inch plate for hinge rebuilds) and welding it square. Aftermarket steel done right outlasts the original thin-stock factory brackets every time in Florida humidity.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags toward the latch side. A cracked weld at the top hinge lets the gate drop, and the Ghost Controls arm starts pulling at an angle it wasn’t designed for. The motor still runs, but it’s working 30% harder.
- You hear a creak or pop when the gate opens. That’s the sound of a weld flexing. It’s not the hinge pin lubricant breaking down. Metal that’s cracked makes noise under load before it fails completely.
- The gate scrapes the driveway or hangs up halfway. A failed weld at the bottom hinge lets the gate drag, which overloads the Ghost Controls force sensor and causes mid-cycle reversals. By the time you see this, the weld has already separated.
- Rust streaks run down from the bracket mounts. In Fort Lauderdale, that orange weeping is the first visible sign of weld deterioration. Salt air gets into the micro-cracks and eats through from the inside.
- The opener arm pops off the mounting pin. If a weld shifts the geometry, the arm can walk off its clevis pin. When that happens, the Ghost Controls arm flails and can bend the receiver plate beyond repair.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Fort Lauderdale, welding and fabrication on Ghost Controls-equipped gates runs $180 to $420 installed. Here’s what drives the range:

- Cracked bracket repair: $180 – $240. We grind out the crack, re-weld, and add a gusset plate for reinforcement.
- Hinge or post mount rebuild: $260 – $340. Includes removing the old weld, cutting back rusted steel, and fabricating a new 1/4-inch plate.
- Custom fabrication (post adapter, repositioned receiver, or gate frame section): $340 – $420. Includes measuring, from-scratch fabrication, welding, and paint or cold-galvanizing to slow the salt.
Every quote is written and agreed before we strike an arc. You know the line-item price for steel, welding time, consumables, and labor before any work starts. That’s not a policy at Warden; it’s how the whole company runs. The work carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if a weld fails within a year, we return and fix it free. No exceptions.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check the obvious things: grab the gate at the latch end and see if it lifts more than a quarter inch (that means a hinge weld is gone), and look for rust weep lines at each bracket. What you shouldn’t do is fire up a flux-core welder from a big-box store and hope for the best. A weak weld on a moving gate is a serious hazard. If a hinge weld fails while the gate is mid-swing, that’s several hundred pounds of steel moving with no support, and the Ghost Controls opener will keep driving it. There’s no safe version of that scenario.
Welding on a gate that carries an automated opener also requires disconnecting the opener, supporting the gate properly, and re-aligning the travel geometry after the repair. Get any of that wrong and you’ll smoke a Ghost Controls motor in three months. Call (754) 354-9065 and we’ll have it done right, same day, with the price in writing before we begin.
FAQs
Original factory brackets typically last 5 to 8 years in Fort Lauderdale’s salt air before the welds start to fail. Our fabricated replacements, with 11-gauge or thicker steel plus cold-galvanizing treatment, typically outlast the original work by several years because we’re using heavier stock than the factory brackets shipped with. The weld itself, done properly, is stronger than the surrounding steel. Call (754) 354-9065 for an assessment of your specific gate.
Most cracked welds can be ground out and re-welded with a reinforcing gusset, which is usually the cheapest good fix. If the crack has spread into the plate or the surrounding steel is rusted thin, we’ll recommend fabricating a replacement bracket instead. We won’t re-weld onto steel that’s lost more than about 30% of its thickness; it’s a temporary fix that puts stress back on the original failure point. Estimates are free.
Most bracket repairs and hinge rebuilds take 60 to 90 minutes on site, including disconnect, welding, and re-alignment of the opener arm. Custom fabrication jobs are usually measured and quoted in 30 minutes, then completed within 48 hours. We arrive with the steel, welder, and Ghost Controls mounting templates already loaded. Cole Rafferty and the crew plan each stop so we’re not making return trips for forgotten parts.
Yes. Our trucks carry Ghost Controls receiver plates, clevis pins, arm brackets, and raw steel stock for fabrication, along with parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and DoorKing openers. If a mount point has failed, we can fabricate a replacement on the spot rather than ordering and waiting. Call (754) 354-9065 and tell us the gate type and opener model; we’ll confirm the parts are loaded before we roll out.
