We stock, install, and program Mighty Mule-compatible keypads and intercom systems across Fort Lauderdale. Most keypad and intercom repairs run between $145 and $320 installed, depending on whether you need a full replacement, a wiring repair, or a new control board. We carry the common Mighty Mule parts on the truck, so in most Fort Lauderdale neighborhoods we can get your gate working again the same day you call.

Here’s how it usually goes down: the keypad works fine on Monday, Tuesday it takes two or three punches to register, and by Friday the gate only opens from the remote or the push button inside. Sometimes the intercom audio gets crackly first, like a cell phone with one bar. Sometimes the whole thing just goes dead after a hard rain. Florida salt air and afternoon thunderstorms are not kind to outdoor electronics, and Mighty Mule units mounted on an unshaded gate post eat that weather all year round.
Which Mighty Mule Models This Applies To
We work on the full Mighty Mule line that shows up in Fort Lauderdale driveways: the MM271, MM371, MM372, MM571, MM572 swing gate openers, and their matching wireless keypads (models like the MMKP1000 and the older FM137 keypad), plus the Mighty Mule intercom kits sold through their access-control line. If you have a Mighty Mule gate opener from the last 12 to 15 years, chances are we have handled it or the exact keypad that pairs with it.
One compatibility gotcha worth knowing before you order parts online: Mighty Mule has used at least three different control board revisions over the years, and a keypad that works with the older FM series will not always talk to the newer MM series boards. The quickest way to know what you need is to look at the label on the underside of the control box or the back of the keypad for the part number and the dip-switch style. And one more hard truth from the truck: the cheapest knockoff keypads on the internet fail in about a season down here because the membrane buttons delaminate in the heat and the UV eats the outer shell. We carry Mighty Mule and quality aftermarket equivalents that are spec-matched, and we’ll tell you honestly when the extra money for OEM is worth it.

Signs Your Mighty Mule Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
- Keypad buttons need multiple presses before they respond. The membrane or the tactile switches underneath are worn or moisture is wicking into the circuit board. You’ll usually notice the “1” and the “gate open” button fail first because that’s what everyone hits the most.
- The keypad beeps but the gate doesn’t move. The keypad is probably fine. The problem is often inside the control board on the gate opener, or the keypad lost its programming after a power blip and needs to be re-paired. This is the most misdiagnosed scenario we see in the field.
- Intercom audio is crackly or one-way. Salt corrosion on the outdoor speaker wire connections is the usual culprit in Fort Lauderdale, especially anywhere east of US-1. Sometimes it’s a failing speaker cone, and sometimes the cable has water inside the jacket.
- The whole unit is dead after a storm. Lightning or a power surge walks right into the low-voltage wiring. A fused control board inside the intercom base is a common replacement, and we also check the transformer because a dead transformer and a dead board often happen together.
- The keypad housing is cracked, faded, or letting in water. Once the silicone seal is compromised, South Florida humidity finishes the job fast. A cracked face usually means replacement, not repair.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what Fort Lauderdale homeowners should expect to pay, parts and labor included:
- Keypad replacement (Mighty Mule or quality aftermarket): $145 to $220 installed
- Intercom system replacement: $220 to $320 installed
- Wiring repair or control board repair: $90 to $180 depending on what’s actually failed
The spread depends on whether we’re swapping in a like-for-like keypad or upgrading you to a newer unit that needs different mounting holes, and how far the intercom wire runs from the house to the gate. We give you the written number before any work starts, and it’s the number on the invoice. That’s a non-negotiable around here, and it’s written into how we run every repair. Every keypad and intercom job also carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it fails within a year, the return visit is free.
DIY or Call Us?
There are a few things you can safely check yourself. Swap fresh batteries in the keypad. Look for a loose wire at the terminal strip if the box is accessible, and tighten it. Power-cycle the gate opener by unplugging it for 60 seconds. Those three fixes resolve maybe one in ten dead keypad calls we take, and none of them will hurt you in the process.
But when the problem is inside the keypad or the intercom base, or when the gate opener control board is involved, we suggest you hand the job to a licensed, experienced tech. These systems run on low voltage, but they’re wired into a gate that weighs several hundred pounds, and repurposing a wire incorrectly can make that gate do something unpredictable. Cole Rafferty has rebuilt enough of these circuits to spot a bad capacitor from a bad board in a few minutes. If you’ve tried fresh batteries and a reset and the thing’s still not working, call us at (754) 354-9065. We’ll quote it straight, and we won’t try to talk you into a full gate replacement over a $160 keypad.
FAQs
We usually see four to seven years out of a Mighty Mule keypad in our climate before the buttons or the seal start going. Keypads mounted on a post in direct sun and direct salt air fail sooner than ones installed under a shaded cover.
Sometimes, yes. If it’s a loose wire, a corroded terminal, or a bad buzzer, we can usually repair it on the spot. But if the circuit board has water damage or the membrane has failed, replacement is less expensive than repair and more reliable. Call (754) 354-9065 and we’ll tell you which one you’re dealing with.
Most keypad replacements take 30 to 45 minutes on site, including programming and testing. An intercom replacement with new wire pulls can stretch to two hours, but most Fort Lauderdale jobs wrap up in a single visit.
Yes. We carry the most common Mighty Mule keypads and intercom parts on our Fort Lauderdale service trucks, along with quality aftermarket equivalents. We also stock replacement parts for LiftMaster, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing systems. Cole’s known for showing up with the right part already loaded, and that’s not an accident. It’s how he built his name in this city.
No. Warden Gate Repair is an independent gate repair company serving Fort Lauderdale. We service Mighty Mule equipment and source compatible parts, but we are not an authorized Mighty Mule dealer or service center.
If your Mighty Mule keypad or intercom isn’t working right, call us at (754) 354-9065 for a free estimate. We’ll quote the job before any work starts, introduce you to your technician by name before they arrive, and stand behind the repair for a full year. A locked gate only protects you if it actually locks.
