We stock Viking-compatible hinges and rollers on our trucks and install them throughout Fort Lauderdale, typically for $220 – $410 per gate depending on the model and whether one or both hinge assemblies need work. Most Viking hinge and roller replacements in Fort Lauderdale are completed same-day once we’re on site. The way you’ll usually find it is the gate drags on the driveway, lets out a grinding noise around knee height, or the leaf sits visibly crooked and won’t latch without a shove.

Coastal air in Fort Lauderdale doesn’t just sit on the surface. It works into the hinge pins and roller bearings, and once salt and humidity have eaten the factory grease, the metal starts eating itself. Cole Rafferty has pulled Viking hinges apart in Fort Lauderdale that looked fine from the outside and were a handful of rust flakes on the inside.
Which Viking Models This Applies To
The hinge and roller assemblies we replace cover the residential and light-commercial Viking gate lines most common in Fort Lauderdale: the R-6, R-8, G-5, and the newer F-1 series swing and slide gates. Viking’s hinge design differs from most competitors in one important way: the hinge barrel and pin are matched as a set, and on several models the roller wheel is pressed onto a sealed cartridge rather than a greasable axle. That sounds like a small detail. It’s the reason a generic hinge kit off a parts site either binds within a season or won’t seat correctly at all.
If you’re trying to identify what you have, look for a small etched plate on the lower gate rail near the hinge post. That plate carries the series code, and sometimes a build date. No plate? Measure the hinge pin diameter and the gate leaf weight. We see that often after a gate has been repainted or the plate has corroded away. A Viking gate that has been running for six or seven years in Fort Lauderdale humidity may also have had a previous hinge replaced with an aftermarket unit, which changes the measurements. We carry both Viking OEM parts and the aftermarket equivalents we’ve tested to hold up in south Florida. When the OEM part is available at a sane price, that’s what we install. When lead times stretch, we’ll show you the alternative and tell you honestly whether it’s a match.

Signs Your Viking Hinge & Roller Replacement Is Failing
- The gate scrapes the driveway near the latch side. This usually means the roller wheel has worn flat or the hinge pin has ovaled out the barrel. The gate drops just enough to drag, and every open-and-close grinds concrete.
- A rhythmic click or clunk as the gate moves. That’s a flat spot on the roller wheel or a pin that’s shifted in the barrel. It tends to come and go, which fools people into waiting too long.
- The gate leans toward the hinge post. When the lower hinge wears faster than the upper, the whole gate leaf leans in. This loads the top hinge unevenly and accelerates the failure.
- You can lift the gate an inch or more at the latch end. Vertical play at the hinge means the pin, the barrel, or both have worn past spec. A properly seated Viking hinge shouldn’t let you rock the leaf.
- The gate binds partway through its travel. As roller bearings seize, the gate hits a hard stop halfway open. The opener will trip its obstruction sensor and reverse, which reads as a motor problem. It’s not. It’s the roller.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Fort Lauderdale, plan on $220 – $410 installed for a complete Viking hinge and roller replacement on a single gate leaf. A basic single-hinge replacement with a standard roller runs toward the bottom of that range. A larger F-1 slide gate needing both hinge assemblies and heavy-duty rollers lands at the top. If we find only one failed component, that’s all we quote. We don’t pair parts to inflate a bill.
Every quote is written and given to you before any work starts, and the price you approve is the price on the final invoice. The labor includes removing the gate leaf safely, swapping the parts, re-hanging the gate, and adjusting the alignment so the opener isn’t fighting the hardware. The parts themselves carry their manufacturer warranty, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the installation. If our work isn’t right, the return visit is free. Period.
DIY or Call Us?
There are things you can check safely. You can watch the gate as it moves and see whether the leaf visibly drops or scrapes. You can lift the latch end and feel for play. You can listen for that flat-wheel click. What you shouldn’t do is unbolt a hinge on a live gate. A Viking gate leaf that weighs 300 or 400 pounds is under tension the moment it leaves the post, and a worn hinge can bind and kick while you’re under it. The roller cartridge on several Viking models is also under spring pressure, and popping it without the right tool sends parts across the driveway.
When you call us, you’ll know who is coming before the truck pulls up: name, photo, and a background-checked threshold badge. We’ll handle the repair, and you won’t have to hold the gate while we do it. Call (754) 354-9065 and tell us what your Viking gate is doing. A locked gate only protects you if it actually locks.
FAQs
In a coastal climate like Fort Lauderdale, expect 5 to 8 years from factory Viking hinges and rollers. Gates closer to the Intracoastal or the ocean tend to wear on the short end of that range; gates inland with shade and a regular maintenance schedule can push further.
Usually not. Once the pin has ovaled the barrel or the roller bearing has seized, machining the parts back to spec costs more than new components and won’t last. We’ll tell you straight if yours has any life left in it. Call us at (754) 354-9065 and we can look at photos before we schedule the visit.
Most single-leaf Viking hinge and roller replacements in Fort Lauderdale take 60 to 90 minutes on site. We stock the common Viking parts on the truck, so there’s typically no waiting on a delivery.
We stock Viking OEM hinges, rollers, and the tested aftermarket equivalents for the R-6, R-8, G-5, and F-1 series on our trucks. We also carry parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls when those systems come up during a service call.
